Position Summary

Establishment of Department Pool Affiliate/Part-time Instructors for Veterans Upward Bound.
Veterans Upward Bound Instructors are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per clock hour basis and on a semester by semester basis. VUB instructors provide academic refresher training/instruction in the assigned subject area to low-income, first generation military veterans who are participants in the Metropolitan State University of Denver Veterans Upward Bound Program. Teaching areas include academic refresher training in English (grammar and composition), Mathematics (basic to pre-Calculus), Science (general), as well as Basic Conversational Spanish. All VUB Instructor positions are contingent upon continued grant funding by the US Department of Education Federal TRIO Programs.
Qualified applicants will be placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for affiliate/part-time departmental needs beginning Spring 2016.


Normal duties associated with classroom instruction are expected, including appropriate use of scheduled class time, grade reports, and communication of participants’ academic performance to VUB advising staff. The instructor is also available for individualized consultation for VUB participants who request and/or demonstrate a need for additional instruction.

Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, usually on a semester by semester basis. Affiliate Faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. An Affiliate faculty member’s duties include: meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with University, School, and Department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with Department course coordination policies; being available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; and complying with University-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

Required Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree or equivalent of 5 years experience related to teaching underrepresented adult students in a pre-college setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree with emphasis in the specific subject area assigned to teach. Experience in adult education.
