This is a full-time tenure track position in the Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Events with a focus on teaching, advising, scholarship and service. This position is responsible for cultivating a learning environment for industry-bound students, as well as those students who wish to pursue graduate studies. Additionally, interaction with members of the professional community through ongoing liaison and participation in local and national chapters of major event and meeting professional associations, will be an ongoing responsibility.

This position requires teaching courses in the required curriculum for the BS in Event and Meeting Management degree, which include Event Project Planning, Event Catering Systems, Trade Show and Exhibition Management, Special Event and Wedding production, Event and Meeting Contracting, Corporate Meetings, Global Meetings and Events, Event Support Systems (utilization of current meeting and event technology), Advanced Planning and Risk Management. The successful candidate will teach 12 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring), which may include teaching evening and/or online classes. Summer classes are optional with additional compensation. The instructor will combine classroom learning with experiential learning, and will effectively integrate technology (internet, social media, and teaching online) into course work, applied research, and advising. The instructor will advise at the undergraduate level, actively serve as faculty advisor to a student organization, provide service to the university and community, and fulfill other assigned duties as requested by the department Chair.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and fostering relationships with meeting, event and hospitality sectors of the economy. It is expected that these relationships will lead to professional opportunities for students as well as research outlets for HTE faculty. The successful candidate must be student-oriented and possess strong leadership skills conducive to building premier undergraduate and graduate programs within the HTE department.
Earned Masters degree plus at least 6 years of industry experience as a corporate, association, or independent/entrepreneurial event or meeting manager.
1) Doctoral degree or ABD at the time of appointment.
2) At least one degree in Hospitality, Tourism or Event Management or related field.
3) Active membership in at least one national/international professional event or meeting association.
4) 3 years teaching or training experience both classroom-based and online, with preference given to candidates with evidence of successful teaching in an institution of higher education.
5) Current and valid Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) or/and Certification in Meeting Management (CMM) designation.
6) Experience planning meetings, conventions, or trade shows outside North America.
7) Corporate meeting planning experience.
