Position Summary

Assistant Professor of Music, Full Time Tenure-Track, Ethnomusicology.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teach a 12 credit hour load per semester. Teach in a variety of areas within the Ethnomusicology and Musicology concentrations as related to candidate’s background, specialization, and experience, including music survey courses for majors and non-majors. Duties may also include coordinating and/or directing a world music ensemble. Maintain scholarly activity at regional and national levels. Assist with the coordination of the ethnomusicology and general studies areas. Advise students, participate in scholarly professional activities, and perform department, university and community service. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

“ABD” in Ethnomusicology or Musicology.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology or Musicology.

Successful college teaching experience.

A record of scholarly activity in the candidate’s area of expertise, such as conference presentations, scholarly publications, or relevant performance experience.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the needs of a diverse urban population. The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.
