Position Summary

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for one tenure track faculty position starting Fall 2018. The successful candidate must have the desire and ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population. This posting will be used to fill one (1) position.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:
1. Carry a 4/4 teaching load, i.e., 12 credit hours per fall and spring semester;
2. Teach introductory and advanced courses in Criminal Justice & Criminology;
3. Advise and be able to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of students from a diverse, and non-traditional student population in an urban environment;
4. Provide service to improve the welfare of the University at all levels and provide public service to the community and professional organizations which benefits the University; and
5. Publish scholarly articles, make scholarly presentations at refereed conferences and community events and participate in other scholarly activities.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related/relevant field (with specialization in Criminal Justice or Criminology ) plus four years of professional/industry experience;

Or

• JD plus four years of professional/industry experience;

Or

ABD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related/relevant field (with specialization in Criminal Justice or Criminology) plus four years of professional/ industry experience. Note: Advanced ABDs are encouraged to apply, but doctorate must be completed by August 2019 in order to be considered for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications/skills
• Earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related/relevant field (with specialization in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice and/or Criminology);
• Four years teaching experience;
• Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in cyber crime, cyber security, cyber law and/or other criminal justice courses related to the field;
• Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in cyber crime or cyber security at the local, state or federal level.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups;
• Excellent written and oral skills;
• Ability to apply current computer and other technologies in the classroom.
