Position Summary

The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences, Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking applications for two full-time tenure-track faculty members in our Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences (SLHS) Program beginning August 2018. For over thirty years, MSU Denver has offered a bachelor’s degree in SLHS. We aim to build upon our highly regarded undergraduate program to create an accredited graduate program in speech-language pathology. We are particularly interested in applicants who share in this programmatic vision. Successful applicants will also demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence as well as pursue scholarly activities and professional development; advise and mentor students from a large, diverse urban population and engage in appropriate University and professional service.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teach 12 credit hours per semester of introductory and advanced undergraduate coursework in communication sciences and disorders. Advise undergraduate and post-bachelor students and participate in curriculum development. Conduct research and engage in scholarly activities related to the discipline. Perform professional service for the university, profession and community. Serve on departmental, university and professional committees.

Teaching may include online, face to face, and hybrid instruction; face to face instruction may include day, evening and weekend as needed.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in speech-language pathology, audiology, education, or linguistics. ABD applicants with an anticipated dissertation completion date by the end of 2018 will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching experience in communication development and disorders across the lifespan.
• Certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology from the American Speech Language-Hearing Association
• Clinical experience in speech-language pathology
• Proficiency with American Sign Language
• Strong collaboration skills
• Knowledge/use of educational teaching technology
• Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners.
