Position Summary

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for Lecturer position starting Spring 2018. The successful candidate must have the desire and ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

This posting will be used to fill one (1) position.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching: The successful candidate will:
1. Carry a 4/4 teaching load, i.e., 12 credit hours per fall and spring semester;
2. Teach introductory and advanced courses in Criminal Justice & Criminology;
3. Advise and be able to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of students from a diverse, and non-traditional student population in an urban environment;

Advising: Advising involves activities specifically directed to assist the student in choosing career options, choosing a degree program, successfully completing his or her degree, obtaining employment or graduate school placement, and keeping informed of College policies.

Service: Service involves contributions to the improvement of the welfare of the department.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology or related field; plus three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach in one of the following areas listed below:

*Criminologist Position: 1) ABD, JD, or earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a closely related social science discipline; 2) Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in introduction to criminal justice, juvenile delinquency, criminological theory, research methods and other criminal justice courses related to the field; 3) Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in corrections, probation, parole, or community corrections at the local, state or federal level.

— OR—

*Law Enforcement/Policing Position: 1) ABD, JD, or earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a closely related social science discipline: 2) Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in law enforcement and other criminal justice courses related to the field; 3) Criminal justice work experience including managerial experience in law enforcement at the local, state or federal level.

— OR—

*Corrections/Penology Position: 1) ABD, JD, or earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a closely related social science discipline; 2) Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in corrections, probation, parole, community corrections, and other criminal justice courses related to the field; 3) Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in corrections, probation, parole, or community corrections at the local, state or federal level.

*Law Position: 1) ABD, JD, or earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a closely related social science discipline; 2) Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in criminal law and other criminal justice courses related to the field; 3) Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in corrections, probation, parole, or community corrections at the local, state or federal level.

— OR—

Applicable to the above positions as a preferred qualification: 1) Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and faculty, especially ethnic minorities; 2) Demonstrated community engagement experience, e.g., outreach to K-12 schools, community partnerships, service learning, community engagement in courses; 3) Excellent written and oral skills; and 4) Ability to apply current computer and other technologies in the classroom.
