Position Summary

The Director for Application Services provides strategic direction and leadership for the support, integration, and ongoing development of the various University Enterprise Data Systems, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems, Enterprise Database support and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The Director collaborates with various campus constituencies, representing all levels of staff within both administrative and academic divisions. This position also maintains external relationships with organizations such as Colorado Higher Education Computing Organization (CHECO), the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF) Consortium, and various vendors and consultants.

Duties/Responsibilities

30% Staff and Administrative Leadership
• Manage supervisory personnel.
• Provide leadership and management for the personnel and budget of the Application Services organization, including coordination with the ITS Leadership Team.
• Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance, address complaints, and resolve problems.
• In coordination with ITS Business Services, manage vendor relationships associated with enterprise software-related contracts and consulting engagements, including development of project plans, scope of work agreements, and vendor negotiations.
30% Business Analysis
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with key campus stakeholders, defining campus needs and proposing technical solutions that deliver tangible benefit to the organization.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences in a compelling, approachable manner. Simultaneously, exhibit an ability to aggregate client requirements and prepare technical project plans for successful solution delivery.

20% Technical Strategy Leadership
• Develop, propose, and implement a long-term vision for the Application Services unit, balancing current University technology needs with future-facing initiatives designed to maintain a modern, scalable, and extensible enterprise architecture.
• Serve as product owner and architect for existing enterprise systems, including ERP and data warehousing systems, while managing ongoing upgrades and enhancements.

15% Project Management Leadership
Provide project leadership for dynamic, cross-functional system implementations and integrations, resource management, and communications.
• Manage project managers including:
o Review project proposals to determine project objectives, timeframe, resource allocation, funding limitations, and procedures.
o Define and maintain organizational portfolio management to include centralization of project management reporting and project portfolio executive visibility.
o Development of project plans.
o Implementation of project plans.
5% Other duties as required.
Other duties and tasks may include, but not limited to:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
• Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in information technology
• Experience with supervision of application development and/or database administration work units comprised of at least 10 full-time staff
• Experience developing and implementing scalable enterprise architecture

Building Consensus: This core competency involves the ability to build consensus internally and with other University departments to achieve common goals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in business, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
• Experience with the Ellucian Banner ERP system and add-on components
• Experience in a higher education environment in an IT management role
• Demonstrated portfolio management experience
• Demonstrated experience implementing enterprise-wide information technology projects
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to discuss information on both technical and non-technical levels
