Position Summary

The Department of Accounting (ACC) in the College of Business at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member to include teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses beginning Fall 2018.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching involves activities that impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students. It includes preparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, conducting curricular review, curricular development, and program review, including the use of new technology, as appropriate.

Advising involves activities specifically directed to assist the student in choosing career options, choosing a degree program, successfully completing his or her degree, obtaining employment or graduate school placement, and keeping informed of University policies.

Engaging in scholarly activities is a process which includes activity that brings enrichment to the faculty member and the profession and results in new material that can be presented to students, as well as new skills which benefit the University community and are related to the faculty member’s assigned responsibilities. It may include investigative work or basic research; infusion of isolated facts with meaning and perspective; making connections across disciplines; placing the specialized in broad context; making knowledge broadly accessible; the solving of problems through the use of scholarly expertise, pedagogical research, creative exploration and production; and methods for the transformation and extension of knowledge, so long as such activities enhance the faculty member’s teaching and/or the faculty member’s ability to perform his or her assigned responsibilities.

Service involves contributions to the improvement of the welfare of the University at any level, and typically unpaid public service to the community or professional organizations which benefits the University.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have either an ABD in accounting or related field, or JD plus Masters degree in accounting or related field. Must also qualify as a Scholarly Academic or Practicing Academic under AACSB guidelines.

For ABD candidates, the degree should be conferred within one year after hire date.

Fields for M, ABD and D:
Any field such that the candidate can demonstrate meeting College of Business’ Professionally or Academically Qualified criteria.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D.
C.P.A. or professional certification(s) in accounting information systems.
Previous experience teaching and designing courses.
Previous experience conducting research and providing intellectual contributions relevant to the field of accounting.
Experience providing service to the professional community.
Professional experience in financial accounting or audit.
